abstract

  • Introduction: In Colombia the mortality rate and the prevalence of Cervix cancer remain constant, it doesn’t matter how many efforts the district and institutional sectors made to promote the prevention cervix cancer program. Actually the focus is promoting the taking of cytology samples in women, but there is not any clinical study focus in asking for the pap smears results.Methodology: This study was done in two different steps, the first one is a descriptive section we enrolled 12875 patients, and the second section is the case and control section in which we enrolled 257 patients. Results: for statistical analysis we used the chi square test and the logistic regression test, these tests showed statistical differences in the explication made by health professionals about the importance of the cytology (p=0,0060), explication about asking for the cytology result (0,003), explanation about when asking for the result (p=0,030), and distance between the home to health center (p=0,065). Discussion: in our study we identify the different factors related with the patients don’t ask for the cytology results like that: the access to the health center, the time needed for asking for the result, the money needed to go to the health center, the first time to take the cytology, the explication about asking for the result and when to ask for the result.
