abstract

  • This report aims to examine Nadalie, a leading French cooperage with locations in the United States, Chile and Australia. The country of focus for this research was Chile. This study seeks to analyze Chilean wine industry, to describe the company’s production process, and to identify Nadalie’s competitive advantage over its competitors. The study displays data related to the world market of wine and barrels, such as world wine production and foreign trade. There was also a focus on the Chilean wine market, in terms of wine production, the production of barrels, its typologies and the functionality of the barrels in the production of wine. The collection techniques used for our research were done through observation, as well as verbal and written techniques. Observation techniques were used at different wineries visits in Chile, where researchers were able to experience the wine-making process personally. Additionally, an arduous investigation on numerical data was carried out after those visits, in order to support and complete the analysis. The results of the study reflected important findings such as the limitations that exist within the logistic system of the barrels and barrels. The oak, which is one of the main inputs in the production process is limited to the area of origin (North America, France and Eastern Europe) creating logistic problems. Another finding was the reverse logistics behind the production of wine, since the barrels can be re-used after the production is done to make furniture and other wood accessories, reducing the environmental impact of the same ones. The study also reflected that Nadalie’s location is one of the key strategies of the company to offer quality products to customers. The DOFA matrix tool was used as a supporting mechanism to come up with significant conclusions and recommendations to Nadalie company in Chile.
