abstract

  • This text presents and discusses the concept of narrative identity and testimony specifically through the philosophy of Paul Ricoeur Fernch and Italian Primo Levi. I begin by posing the problem of the cogito and Ricoeur’s response to the concept of attestation outlining the who question, who speaks, narrates or read. It con tinues with the dialectic between the ipse idem as two ways of explaining the identity. This leads to trace the narrative identity and the questions on who narrates? and who reads? This will elucidate the text of Levi by the idea of catharsis or evaluation for both the narrator and the reader in the text or reading, respectively, seeking a direction for the event. In the end, and as a synthesis between the witness and identity narrative emphasizes the question who is responsible? Introducing the ethical nature of narrative identity.
