abstract

  • In Colombia, the armed conflict has affected millions of people, leading to severe consequences for mental health. Access to mental health services is limited due to multiple barriers. The Psychosocial Care and Comprehensive Health Program for Victims of the Armed Conflict (Papsivi) aims to address this issue. This study analyzes the impact of the psychosocial care component of Papsivi on the demand for mental health services and suicide rates. The results reveal a significant increase in mental health care and diagnoses of mental illnesses due to the program's implementation, supporting the hypothesis that the program strengthens access to health services. This contributes to more effective recovery and the reduction of the stigma associated with mental disorders. This study provides valuable information about mental health programs in Colombia and underscores the importance of providing care to victims of the armed conflict. It emphasizes the need to integrate more sources of information for a more comprehensive assessment of the program's impact on people's quality of life.
