abstract

  • Introduction: Diana Lucía Sánchez LópezCaesareansectionisasurgicalprocedure considered safe by some people, regardless of the possibleconsequences inshows ansubsequentincreased risk ofpregnancies. There isliterature thatabrupcio placenta, placentaaccreta, placenta previa, maternal mortality, maternal sepsis, ICU admission, low Apgarscore, lowbirthweight, respiratory distress, among others. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impactof previouscesareansection on maternalandneonatal morbidity through a systematic literature review and meta-analysis. Methodology We searched various databases within 1996 and 2011 onthe history of caesarean section and possible risks in subsequentpregnancies for the mother and child. Variation of MeSH terms wereused. Results There were a total of 2, 483 articles, of which 247 met criteriaforinclusión. Thesewerefullyevaluated. Subsequentlyperformed meta-analytical analysis of each of the outcomes. Theresults should be interpreted with caution as the methodologicalquality of studies was variable. The overall risk statistically significantresults were found in placenta previa, low Apgar, hysterectomy. Moreresearch is needed with other outcomes. Discussion The previous cesarean section poses an increased risk forsubsequent pregnancies in maternal and neonatal morbidity. There areno enough studies to evaluate the cesarean status
