abstract

  • Introduction: Aging is a sociodemographic phenomenon related to the increase of chronic diseases and within this the neurocognitive disorder, being a priority in public health secondary to the impact on the functional decline of the older adult. Social determinants identified in the ENASEM were defined and their relationship with neurocognitive disorders in the population over 60 years of age in Mexico was evaluated. Methods: Secondary analysis of data from ENASEM 2003 and 2018, with descriptive statistics and comparison of the two years to establish the association between social determinants and cognitive disorders. Results: In a sample of 373 respondents in 2003 and 375 in 2018, it was possible to measure comprehensive basic cognitive functions and evaluate the presence or absence of neurocognitive disorder; 30.6% (2003) and 15.7% (2018) had the disease, in both years there were more cases in women than in men, the average age was 69.1 years (2003) and 72.2 years (2018). A bivariate analysis was performed and no association was found for p values > 0.05 and each of the confidence intervals crossed 1 equivalent to a non-significant association; it was not possible to define protective factors or risk factors between the variables. There is insufficient evidence to say that there is an association between the dependent variable and the independent variables collected. Conclusion: According to the ENASEM data, no association was found between the neurocognitive disorder and the variables selected for the social determinants.
