The university hospitals concept has been improved in all over the world and the legislation that regulates their performance has come to be more strict as well as the evaluation mechanisms to ensure the education quality for the students who are developing their practices in hospital environments. The strategic direction of university hospitals requires a specific analysis of the enviroment through different tools like specific analysis of the stacking, an analysis of the competitive landscape, structural analysis of the market forces and competitors study to make a strategic sector diagnosis. Moreover a matrix model performing it’s going to provide strategic planning by integrating quantitative and qualitative analysis. The objective of this research is to make a structural analysis of the strategic sector of university hospitals and particularly analyze the situation of the Instituto de Ortopedia Infantil Roosevelt as part of this sector. The research began with a definition of the university hospitals concept, and existing legislation. Subsequent, through this study were identified the institutions that constitute the strategic sector and were made the analysis about the business environment to identify the sector situation and an analysis of the education and research area of Instituto de Ortopedia Infantil Roosevelt to provide strategies and build the institutional horizon.
