  • During the centuries XX and XXI, the Colombian foreign policy has reflected certain tendencies that have repercussions in the reality of the country in a favorable and unfavorable way. Because the foreign policy is the reflection of the interests and needs of the citizens in a State, it is important to know how the National Character is, in order to understand why a State acts in a certain manner, and how it can enforce its strategies implemented at the foreign level. The following diagnostic investigation wants, by studying the history of Colombia during this two centuries, catch sight of the factors that have conditioned the National Character, and therefore, have influenced the Colombian foreign policy. By recounting this events, it would be possible to understand why the Colombian government uses certain foreign policy strategies, so as to recommend their rethinking and their better adequacy to the Colombian national character.
