  • Introduction: shoulder pathologies are often a cause of greater demand for consultation in the workplace, generating disability and economic losses for both the affected and the company and even the Healthcare Promotion Entity responsible for the care and treatment. Among the most frequent pathologies shoulder rotator cuff syndrome, bursitis, painful shoulder abduction syndrome, tendinitis of the biceps tendon injury and rotator cuff calcifying tendinitis of the shoulder are.Objective: To determine and characterize common shoulder pathologies and labor origin, welfare and economic benefits of these stems in EPS during the period 2012-2014 in the city of Bogota.Methodology: A cross-sectional study with secondary data from 657 members Contributory Scheme in an EPS of Bogota, with information from shoulder pathologies registered common and work-related, during the period of 2012-2014 was performed. The variables included were sociodemographic, occupational and clinics. Qualitative variables were described in terms of proportion and through quantitative measures of central tendency (mean/median) and dispersion (range, standard deviation, quartiles) variables. To assess the association between variables the chi-square test was used Pearson using α significance level of 0.05.Results: Of the total membership was found that 27.3% of disease were work-related and other common origin, predominantly female (76.9%); marital status married (34.4%), secondary education (60.4%). A high percentage of patients have worked in manufacturing (51%) and the most frequent diagnosis was the rotator cuff syndrome (89.2%). In reviewing the factors associated with the origin of the disease in the rating of these, association with age (p = 0.000), schooling (p = 0.013), economic activity (p = 0.0000), the factor found ergonomic occupational (p = 0.0000) and with the diagnoses of pathologies shoulder (p = 0.025).The days of disability shoulder pathologies reported a median of 111 days with a range from 0 to 1925 days. The time of exposure to occupational risk factor present a range of 6 to 470 months, costs generated shoulder pathologies corresponded to a range of $ 4000 to $ 68894438, with a median of $ 2287304. Is transcendental diagnose early and establish therapeutic measures to improve the symptoms that cause shoulder pathologies and alteration in its functionality, thus minimizing costs and sick days that this entails.
