Factores asociados con la adherencia terapéutica en pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 2 atendidos en la consulta de medicina interna de un hospital de II nivel de Bogotá

Abstract: Diabetes Mellitus is one of the diseases considered as a public health problem in the world. Studies show how people who have type 2 Diabetes Mellitus have a tendency to not adhere to treatment. This study aims to determine the factors associated with adherence to the use of medications in adults with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Research design and Method: This is a cross sectional, analytical observational study performed with 187 adult patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus from an II level hospital in Bogotá, Colombia. A random sampling of systematic selection was performed. Instruments used: IMEVID lifestyle, Morisky Scale and the sociodemographic characteristics and pathological antecedents. The information was verified in the medical record. The reasons for prevalence and logistic regression model were carried out. Results: 187 patients were evaluated, 49% patients are part of the Club of chronic patients with metabolic disorders. The variables that were associated with adherence to treatment were: Favorable lifestyle OR 9,37 (IC 95% 2,72 - 32,27) and consultations with general medicine practitioners > 6 in the last year, OR 2,10 (IC 95% 1,07 – 4,12). Conclusions: There is an important relationship between adherence to treatment by patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and some factors that can be modified such a lifestyle, frequency of medical consultations, and membership of an educational and prevention program.
