abstract

  • Academic engagement is closely related to variables of the educational context and it has effects on academic performance, satisfaction with the institution and the personal and professional orientation of students. To validate the effect of the values of organizational culture on academic engagement, this research was carried out. A quantitative study was carried out a correlation-causal, non-experimental and transactional scope; for data collection, a measurement based on the Hofstede cultural values model and the Utrech Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9s) were used. The sample of the study was composed of 1,119 students from the Human and Social Sciences and Engineering faculties of the Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios, Headquarters in Bogotá (Colombia). The results show that cultural values are predictors of academic engagement although in a differentiated way, finding in particular a significant relationship between short term-long term cultural dimension and academic engagement.
