abstract

  • This article intends to make an approximation to the notion of the female body in the feminist current of sexual difference, headed by Luce Irigaray, taking as reference the unity of her works but emphasizing on two of her texts: Speculum of the other woman and The body to body with the mother . From there I will intend to demonstrate the possibility of giving an account and “constructing” an autonomous feminine subjectivity from the feminist theories of sexual difference. In order to do this, the analysis of three fundamental relations that allow for an original unraveling of the notion of the body will be undertaken. In the first place, the relationship between body and language will be explained, taking into account Irigaray's criticism of patriarchy. Secondly, the relation between body and female sexuality will be discussed. Finally, the relation between the body and feminine subjectivity that can be found in the method proposed by the Belgian philosopher, will be exposed.
