  • Abstract: In recent years, oujccupational presenteeism is a phenomenon that has been manifested as a response to work stress, employees demotivation and the fear of losing their jobs or having economic repercussions due to absences. A determining factor that causes the popularity of this phenomenon is the companies demand of productivity that forces the employee to work on a job in difficult conditions that cuase the decrease in productivity. Presentism has a negative implication both for employment and for the service and, most importantly, for the employee and his health. From the above, there is a need to propose an approach to this subject from the perspective of occupational health. Objective: To describe the characteristics of the presentism phenomenon and analyze it in the context of occupational risks and occupational health. Materials and methods: A review of information was made in databases such as CISDOC and Scielo, and databases in scientific research such as Medline and Pubmed, in English and Spanish, considering a period of 10 years of publication. The key words used in the search were: presenteeism, risk management, occupational disease, deterioration of labor productivity and psychology in the industry. Results: The articles that are contrasted leave a clearer perspective of the implications on the health of employees. In addition, the review of these articles discloses some strategies of prevention and mitigation of the effects in the field of occupational health for workers, in the same way, it provides solutions from the labor management.
