abstract

  • The Kangaroo Mother Method is care for premature or low birth weight children that consists of skin-to-skin contact with their mother, early discharge from the hospital and exclusive breastfeeding to rapidly improve their health conditions: brain development, quality of life and impact on survival rates. (WHO, 2018). In this research, we will focus on developing a cost-efficiency pilot model of the Kangaroo Mother Program in its outpatient phase at the San Ignacio de Bogotá University Hospital, in order to complement the scientific studies that have been done previously to achieve a comprehensive approval of the MMC within the medical community. For the elaboration of the model, the data provided by the Kangaroo Foundation for the period that includes the years 2013 to 2018 were taken into account.
