  • Generally avoidable maternal mortality has been considered the highest expression of inequality in health, in which primarily women with greater socioeconomic difficulties are affected, and in which there is a great difference in the mortality rates presented by developed countries compared to developing countries. Thus, the motivation of this research is to present the deaths of pregnant women in the department of Atlántico during the year 2017, through a systematic review of the units of analysis provided by the Departmental Health Secretary carried out in Atlántico, in order to offer input that allows the proposal of actions that would contribute to diminish these fatal outcomes in the territory. The present investigation was carried out through a cross-sectional descriptive study, in which the characteristics of the maternal mortality of 22 cases of women who died during the pregnancy or in the puerperium in the year 2017 and to whom units of analysis were performed were determined. Based on the sociodemographic data provided by the Department of Departmental Health of the Atlantic, which were not due to external or violent causes. It was identified that the most frequent delay in the 22 cases of maternal deaths was type I, which refers to the delay in the identification of the risk and the duties and rights in sexual and reproductive health representing the (95. 45%), the majority of the deaths were avoidable with one (64%) and in the puerperium (50%) the event was presented.
