abstract

  • Now a days the alcohol consumption, as well as the marijuana abuse, and suicidal behaviors (ideation and suicide attempt) in young adults, are a public health matter that have an impact in a social and emotional level, and bursts as well, into the lifestyle not only of the consumer but to its household and surrounding environment. There is a special concern for the early consumption of these substances, oscillating between fifteen years in the case of men and eighteen in women. The aim of this research is to review theoretical and empirical evidence on suicidal behavior (ideation and intent) and alcohol and marijuana among adolescents and young adults. Among others, the results show that alcohol consumption and suicidal behavior are related and that there is no empirical evidence on the relationship between marijuana use and this behavior.
