abstract

  • The objective of this investigation is to use the collaborative circles’ sociological theory developed by Michael Farrell in order to analyze two fundamental aspects related with the group of Colombian intellectuals of early twentieth century known as the circle of Cultura. First, it pretends to document and examine this circle’s journey inside the Colombian cultural field, in order to elaborate a sociological portrait concerning the stages of development of its internal structure (i.e. of the organization of its members and the relationships between them), the processes through which its most important identity symbols conformed, and how these symbols materialized in written formats or in other type of cultural projects throughout all the group’s existence. Secondly, this work aims to investigate the intellectual trajectory of Luis López de Mesa, the group’s most important member, to know what types of transformations were carried out thanks to his participation in the circle in relation to his attitudes, practices and ideological symbols, etc.
