abstract

  • This document describes and analyzes, through the concepts of civil resistance and collective action, how mobilizations in Tolima have generated changes in the modus operandi of the transnational miner Anglogold Ashanti in “La Colosa” mine between 2007 and 2013. A number of interviews and field visits were conducted to allow the construction of an approximation to the Environmental and Rural Committees of the Tolima movement. This approximation led to a reconstruction of the understanding of the problematic situations that local communities face when the mining corporations come to their territories transforming, in different aspects, the local dynamics. This understanding constitutes an input that can be used by communities to empower themselves in front of the right to decide on the use they want to give their territory.
