This research aims at understanding how the political discourse of president Álvaro Uribe Velez has built an idea of nation in Colombia, and also at observing the process by means of which it took place. The above mentioned, in order to comprehend the reason why the government in the first presidential term has allowed him to enjoy unprecedented support and popularity in the recent history of the country, which has also meant having governability and legitimacy more than any other president. For this purpose, concepts such as nationalism, ideology, the enemy and legitimacy were studied attentively, and also the content of governmental discourse was examined to find the characteristics and elements that permitted the creation of such idea of nation.
