abstract

  • This research has the objective of explaining the way in which social mobilization in Tunisia, which took place in 2010, became a political contentious phenomenon at a transnational level that expanded to Egypt. By means of concepts such as transnational social movement, diffusion and collective action frames, this investigation examines the ways in which ideas where disseminated through national borders and, it analyzes the framing process carried out by the Egyptian activists. Through this analysis, this research seeks to demonstrate that even though the social, political and economic situation in Tunisia and Egypt were similar at the time; this does not imply an automatic analogue reaction from the affected civilian population. A series of processes must be carried out within each social movement in order for it to decide to effectively take on contentious political action.
