This thesis is an in-depth analysis of the crisis of representation that took place in the Colombian city of Villavicencio, department of Meta, between 2000 and 2011. During that time, 10 mayors held office. The study focuses on the crisis-related factors and the main drivers within the local government between 2003 and 2007. The analytical framework is based on the explanation of the electoral dynamics that materialized in the midst of each election and in the strategies carried out by each candidate that reflected phenomena such as corruption and clientelism. It is demonstrated that all the electoral dynamics that were manifest during those years suffered from irregular alterations that were applied with the aim of reaching power.
