The productive chain study requires several variables and to be able to establish how effective the chain is or not, there are many tools possibly used. In the present study, the basic tool for its study was the strategic diagnosis (one of the phases belonging to a technological surveillance study). The main objective of this diagnosis is to evaluate the macro and micro scenarios of the chosen product, in order to establish the strengths, opportunities, threats and weaknesses of the whole system. In addition to determining the link key activities of the chain and its generation of value.FAO has declared cassava as one of the most important foods for mankind, not only because it is easily adapted to soils but also because of protein and vitamin content. In Colombia it corresponds to one of the most cultivated agricultural products, for that reason it is important to make an evaluation of how the production of this crop is being carried out and if the technology used is adequate.Throughout the present study, the description of the productive chain of cassava in Colombia will be developed. It takes into account the main processes in its production such as suppliers, production, harvest, post harvest, sale and final consumer. In addition, the elements of support in the value chain are also included, such as associativity, human resources and technological development. From the description of the productive chain of cassava, the activities with high technological participation are determined through the whole process. Two of the main activities with technological impact are taken, which will be analyzed and the results will be presented at Colombia and worldwide level of each of them.
