abstract

  • Pressure ulcers caused by sustained pressure on the skin and adjacent tissue is a problem considered public health, given its high prevalence, occur mostly in people who have restrictions on their mobility, in the 3 to 10% of patients hospitalized; with an incidence rate ranging between 7. 7 and 26. 9%, with consequences for the institution by high costs, the community, the patient and family. In Colombia alone there are some studies in institutions in Bogotá, Cartagena, Bucaramanga and Medellin. Prevalence studies are important because they view the situation of the problem, encourages the implementation of preventive measures and the formulation of institutional policies that promote patient safety and quality of care. At the University Hospital Fundación Santa Fe de Bogota it is not known exactly prevalence but is known to be present for the complications and consequences mentioned above, therefore the objective of this study was to determine the point prevalence of pressure ulcers in patients hospitalized, and at the end be input for further study to generate an institutional Healthy Skin Program. The study was conducted by measuring in 1 day where all hospitalized patients was assessed, a descriptive analysis of each variable was performed, and a bivariate measures of association was obtained to identify the relationship between risk factors and the development of pressure ulcers.
