abstract

  • The SARS Cov 2 pandemic posed a great challenge for humanity and especially for the population in the health sector, so it was necessary to implement new biosecurity policies in order to reduce and/or contain its transmission. However, these policies were not implemented in the same way in all countries, generating different impacts in each country. Objective: To identify the biosecurity policies implemented at the international and national levels in response to the COVID 19 pandemic for health workers. Materials and Methods: Scope review that included publications between 2020 and 2023 in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Health workers, biosafety policies including protective barriers, precautions, recommendations and elimination measures were included as variables. The following databases were used: PubMed, Scielo and Scopus and the official pages of MinSalud. The keyword combinations used were: “COVID-19” and “SARS-CoV-2”, “policies”, “health workers”, “health workers”, “biosafety”. ((COVID-19) AND (health care workers) AND (policy) AND (biosafety) AND (biosecurity). Results: A total of 273 articles were found in the result of the search chain, 5 duplicate articles were removed leaving 151 Pubmed, 85 Scopus, 30 Scielo and 2 national guidelines, taking into account the selection criteria, 31 articles were finally selected. The results indicated that the lack of adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) and the lack of training of health personnel to deal with the pandemic were the main shortcomings in the implementation of biosafety policies. These vary significantly between countries and their effective implementation depends on factors such as the availability of resources and the capacity of health systems to adapt to changing needs. Conclusions: In a pandemic, it is necessary to establish clear and coherent policies at the national and international levels, as well as to continuously monitor, evaluate and strengthen their implementation to ensure their effectiveness.
