abstract

  • In the western region of the department of Boyacá (Colombia) 1, the social, cultural, economic and political organization is determined by social and economic processes linked to the discovery, extraction and commercialization of the emerald, a fact that reflects transformations in experiences and the construction of identity of the subjects who live in said geographic space. This research seeks to present and analyze the experiences of young people within the mining municipality of Muzo and identify the way in which the notion of youth is built in the territory, bearing in mind that, currently, the presence of multinational companies in the municipality It has involved a process of formalization and commercial exclusion in the emerald business. All this has led to profound changes in the social dynamics of the municipality, generating uncertainty in the population regarding the present and future of the region.
