abstract

  • Due to growing importance of services in exportation and employment generation, the Colombian government considered it necessary to create a methodology for the pre-identification of service sector with high potential for exportation. Given the limitations of data for services sector, not only in Colombia, but worldwide (ie. difficulties in the traceability of commercial service flows and lack of historical records), the first part of this document proposes, through methods of machine learning (ie KNN) and using different classifications of services (ie CABPS, ISIC and CPC), an alternative to overcome these limitations. Subsequently, and through the implementation of this methodology, there are 7 sectors of the Colombian economy that have both comparative advantage, potential demand and export and productive capacity: i) Air transport - Others, ii) Telecommunications services, iii) Information services, iv) Professional and consulting services in business administration, v) Technical services, related to commerce and other business services, vi) Other personal, cultural and recreational services and vii) Government goods and services.
