abstract

  • The Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL) prevalence increase with the age and has not been documented in Latin America. This study describes the prevalence and associated variables to FPHL in a dermatological consultation. Methods: Descriptive study in 99 women older than 18 years of age who attended to Dermatological consultation with FPHL diagnosis. A pilot test was made in 22 patients, and data from 99 patients were analized according to Ludwig clasiffication, age, comorbilities and mood disorders. Results: The estimated prevalence for FPHL was 20.84%. 43,4% of patients belonged to ages between 31 and 49 years old. 50,5% were diagnosed with FPHL grade II. 62,6% have an important medical history while 54,4% manifested a secondary mood disorder. All the patients classified as grade III had an important medical history. (ORP= 1,14 IC95% (1; 1,26 ) (p < 0,05)). Of those grade II patients, 61,1% presented any secondary mood disorder (ORP=2,58 IC95% (1,14; 5,84) (p<0,05)). Conclusions: Due to the FPHL increase in Colombian population that leads to multiple costs to the health system, it has been necessary to make further studies in order to characterize this disease. It´s recommended a study with a greater sample in the interest to describe the prevalence and the variables that are related to FPHL in the whole Colombian female population.
