This article aims to document, through the use of description, the functioning and the structural development of the Ecopetrol SA`s corporate social responsibility area. This work is based on the definition of variables such as history, organization and division of labor, organizational structure and strategic platform. By performing this detailed description, its functioning analysis and seeking a comprehension of its relations with all other divisions of the company; as well as an understanding of the synergy with its stakeholders, will be known its generated impacts. With this, can be organized a descriptive framework to clarify the activity of a CSR area; looking for parallels with other companies that will allow, in the future, understanding the creation and functioning models for other companies.
