The present document mainly studied the way the culture can interfere in the wine’s consumption, taking into account the trips to Chile and Argentina with the Universidad del Rosario in which I had the opportunity to learn about the whole business cycle of wine and to appreciate how the culture is a main element in this industry. Characteristics that define the wine culture, as well as the wine’s history, grapes variety, consumption, import and export statistics over the world, will be analyze in this paper. Additionally, through a questionnaire made to inhabitants of Monteria, it was possible to know their preferences and level of knowledge about wine. In addition, the current situation of the wine market will be discussed. In recent years, the wine industry has undergone a series of changes in which the decrease in production and the number of vineyards hectares stand out. The wine industry represents an important amount of profits for the European Union’s countries, a series of regulations have occupied a dominant place in order to maintain the competitiveness of the industry and to produce quality product. Likewise, the effect of the entrance of new competitors into the market, and how this has affected consumption, imports and exports will be analyzed. Also, the changes this industry in Colombia have had will be seen, Colombia went from being a county in which the production of wine was prohibited to one in which, despite his low quantity of production, wines have been awarded in international stages. However, it continues to be a developing industry and a growing culture in Colombia in which efforts must be center.
