abstract

  • ERA (acute respiratory illness) Rooms are defined areas in the Primary Care Units (UPAS), Immediate Medical Care Centers (CAMIS) and some second-level institutions for the care of patients with ERA, which can be managed with basic protocols but that in many opportunities they use many observation rooms for emergency cases that could be operated at a lower level of complexity, but this can not be managed at home. Acute respiratory disease (ERA) is a set of diseases that affect respiratory system, this is a very frequent cause of morbidity and mortality in children younger than 5 years, especially for acute respiratory infection (ARI). The care rooms’ payment to children under five years corresponds to the Financial District Fund which has a package that includes medical assessment, assessment with the respiratory therapist, analgesics, corticosteroids and inhalers. At the time the doctor ordered a clinical laboratory test, the Financial District Fund does not pay the full package of services in ERA Room this form of payment lets less profit, because it must cover the cost of the assessment by the physician and respiratory therapist. The objective of this research is the extent about the application of clinical laboratory tests for children under five years who received care in a primary care social institution of the State in Bogotá.
