  • Backround: Prostitution is a lucrative activity played by both, men and women to get a quick and relatively easy economic support that can solve their economic situation, but this profession has inherent risks such as sexually transmitted diseases, and infection with human papillomavirus. With this study it was intended to know the cytopathological alterations of the cervix in a sample of female sex workers in the district capital. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was performed. Sociodemographic surveys were conducted and the results were analyzed. Additionally, the risk factors associated with ASC-US were established by chi square test and Mann Whitney tests. Results: A total of 102 female workers were included, the median age was 30 years, the frequency of alterations cytopathological (ASC-US) was 8. 8% (n = 9). No cases of cervical neoplasia or alterations of glandular cells were found. 81% use condoms with prostitution, no patient was vaccinated against HPV. Discussion: Larger studies are needed to establish the factors associated with the cytopathology alteration in such a vulnerable population.
