abstract

  • Introduction: Teaching entails a high cognitive and physical demand, which sometimes causes diseases of different types, from mental disorders to diseases of the circulatory system, which causes teachers to be absent from their workplace due to medical incapacity, leading to. unfavorable repercussions for everyone: the worker, because he is the one who has the disease; the company, in this case the educational system, because its productivity decreases due to the loss of personnel; and in the same way to society because it delays its economic growth. Objective: Describe the behavior of work absenteeism due to medical disability in teaching staff in the district of Bogota in the years 2015-2019. Materials and methods: A descriptive study was carried out, based on the medical inability records of the Bogota district teachers, provided by the IPS in charge of the care of his health. From the database, 151,166 disability records were recovered for the 2015-2019 analysis period. Then, with information that met the quality and interest criteria, they were processed using central trend measures and statistical analysis, to describe the behavior of teachers' job absenteeism. Results: During the period evaluated, 151,166 disabilities were recorded, contributing 940,747 days. The most absenteeism group corresponded to women and the average age is 45 years (with a standard deviation of 9.68 years). The type of inability that causes the most absence are common diseases such as acute rhinopharyngitis (CIE 10 - J00X) in the first place. On the other hand, absenteeism from occupational disease contributed 295,055 days and this was mostly caused by mental and behavioral disorders, such as mixed anxiety and depression disorders (CIE 10 - F412) in the first place. Conclusions: This study achieves a characterization of days of inability disaggregated according to the study variables (age, gender, day, position, pathology, locality, teaching area, type of disability, institution and educational level); also generate recommendations, from an occupational health perspective, for educational establishments whose teachers have disabilities caused by pathologies acquired in the teacher's workplace; it is also, this study can be considered a baseline for future analyzes.
