abstract

  • In the present research proposal the reader will find a clear intention to describe the various ways in which the body is constructed, leaving aside the ideal and legitimate prototype that is held towards it in society. This description will be based on the practice of Tango Queer, a practice of the 21st century that is introduced in opposition to traditional tango, and in general, to the traditional way in which this social field is constituted. My proposal therefore suggests a theoretical-practical analysis based on the concepts of performativity and embodiment in order to see how the body can be constructed and how other categories, such as gender, can be deconstructed as consequence. Thus, an ethnographic work was made in order to describe the elements of tango and tango queer, and then, the theoretical part dealt with discourse and the practice itself. The results showed the importance of queer tango practitioners due to its generation of revolutionary spaces and as breeders of emerging categories different from those already established in society, this implies a shift in their perception of them in relation to their daily life, a routine that rethinks the strict legitimation of bodies and the plasticity of concepts such as gender and sexuality.
