  • This thesis studies the role played by physical education and sports in the construction of the liberal nation project in the thirties. Thus, it is stated that, during the Liberal Republic, both sets of practices were used with the dual objective of forging a national identity based on the formation of a population that possessed the same physical and moral traits acquired from physical exercise, and in turn, consolidate the modernization of the country through the corporal strengthening of the popular classes that were seen by the leaders of this party, as the workforce that would allow to realize their progressive projects.
