  • The physical activity as social practice in people wit intellectual disability, enables an infinity variety of imaginaries that must recognize them to determine with the precision the benefits and changes that can be generated. A phenomenological study was developed, it enabled from the vivid experience of the participants, to identify which are the social representations of the swimming as social practice. The experiences of a intellectual disability young group, their families and teachers was followed through several interviews, observations and life stories. Development: In this population a lifestyle based on movement is evident, it is characterized by performing various recreational, sports and artistic activities that promote its concentration and autonomy. In addition, physical activity, sports, and in particular; swimming, have a positive impact on their academic training and work projection. Likewise, the importance of the practice of a sport to have interpersonal relationships, health and quality of life is highlighted. Conclusions: Social representations are understood as mechanisms that allow an approximation to the meanings of practices in various fields; they are a social cognitive system that includes elements such as bodies of information, beliefs, opinions, and attitudes about a given object. In this investigation, the phenomenon of physical activity was approached from data such as performance and physical condition; but it has not been worked on since the significance of the practice of a sport in the quality of life of a human being with a disability.
