abstract

  • Various radiological classifications have been developed to support the diagnosis of pneumoconiosis. The purpose of this study was to compare the correlation of radiographic findings related to the diagnosis of pneumoconiosis detected in reading chest radiographs performed by trained medical classification system of the International Labour Organisation (ILO 2000) and a specialist radiologist. Methodology: descriptive study. 142 reading on conventional chest radiographs regarding findings suggestive of pneumoconiosis detected by a physician trained in international ILO classification specialist radiologist, using the Kappa index for agreement between two observers were compared, observations were also taken into account reported on cinematic quality in decision-radiography and other different or related findings pneumoconiosis. Results: In 47 readings ILO, 33.1% and 9.9% (14) readings radiologist, there was suggestive of pneumoconiosis. In 123 (86.6%) readings ILO and 1 (0.7%) reading radiologist, there were findings of lack of technical quality. In 26 (18.3%) readings ILO, and 9 (6.3%) readings radiologist, was detection of other findings. The inter-reader agreement suggestive of pneumoconiosis was weak with a kappa value of 0.245, the technical quality was poor, with Kappa value of 0.02 and agreement in the detection of other different findings pneumoconiosis was weak with Kappa value of 0.274 . Conclusions: The classification system of the ILO can be more sensitive to detect suggestive of pneumoconiosis, lack of technical quality and other findings on chest radiography.
