In this work we will study mining carried out Cerro Matoso S.A in the South of the Department of Córdoba through qualitative research method, based on review of structured and non-structured interviews, official sources, as well as in books and academic sources. This approach is intended to see how has influenced the exploitation of Cerro Matoso S.A in the development of the municipalities of Montelibano and Matoso Union in the Department of Córdoba, since at first glance mining in that Department has not contributed to the development. So use the theoretical contributions of Amartya Sen and his theory on development and freedom. Finally, this work intends to contrast the institutional speeches, and testimonies of the inhabitants of Montelibano and La Union Matoso.
