abstract

  • Following the approaches of Darwin (1975) with the theory of evolution and Buss (1994) with the psychological evolutionist, the research presented here, it was proposed to identify the attributes offered and desired by men and women who seek an occasional relationship with people of the same sex, through personal advertising. For this purpose, a descriptive study was carried out with the Colombian population. 300 profiles (150 men and 150 women) of the online dating page www.colombiacupid.com were analyzed through a content analysis guided by the following categories: physical attractiveness, economic resources and age. The statistical analysis of the information showed that in most categories of analysis there are no significant differences between men and women, in what they prefer and in what they offer when they seek to establish a short- term relationship with a person of the same sex. In the only category that the study showed significant differences was in the age both offered and desired. In conclusion, on the one hand, most of the findings of this research contrast with what the literature offers about sexual preferences in people looking for a partner of the same sex and, on the other hand, with respect to age, the results are consistent with the literature.
