abstract

  • The Republic of Peru has been configured as an emerging mining nation in South America, since the late nineties. The application of neoliberal Washington Consensus reforms introduced a vision of development based on the promotion of FDI that caused the rise of extractive industries in departments such as Cajamarca. In this context, it arose problems of pollution and environmental rights violations, which led to the reorganization of civil society around social movements such as Grufides, locally and CONACAMI, nationwide. By establishing transnational networks with NGO Global Greengrants Fund, it was articulated an activist trend by which it became the channel for the demands of resistance and promotion of sustainable development, from the impacts of mining projects.
