This research aims to explain the influence of the construction of Vietnamese culturalidentity in the Vietnam War of Independence between 1946 and 1954. It argues that theconstruction of cultural identity justified, promoted and legitimized the war ofindependence as political instrument because –as it is a relational process–, it generatedduring the French colonization differentiation practices grounded on values, traditions, customs, beliefs and symbols of Vietnamese resistance. This led to a rupture in theprevailing political relations, which led to the search for a new social order based on selfdetermination. A qualitative methodology, based on documentary and historiographical analysis is used.
