- ALCANCE DEL ESTUDIO TÉCNICO.Este estudio se desarrolló con el interés de indagar acerca de la asociación entre las condiciones de salud respiratoria y las de exposición laboral por vía inhalatoria a material particulado respirable, polvo respirable con contenido de sílice cristalina (cuarzo, cristobalita y tridimita) y polvo de carbón bituminoso, en los trabajadores de Cerrejón; la data utilizada se basó principalmente en fuentes de información secundaria e incluyó a trabajadores que pertenecían a los Grupos de Exposición Similar (GES) ya identificados por la empresa. LA EMPRESA.Cerrejón es un complejo de minería y transporte integrado en La Guajira, en el extremo norte de Colombia. Abarca una mina a cielo abierto de carbón térmico con más de treinta años de operación que produce más de 32 millones de toneladas al año, un ferrocarril de 150 km de largo y un puerto marítimo de cargue directo capaz de recibir buques de hasta 180.000 toneladas de capacidad. La mina se encuentra ubicada entre los municipios de Albania, Barrancas y Hatonuevo, en La Guajira y posee recursos estimados en 1.961 millones de toneladas de carbón. Cuenta con varios tajos operativos: Patilla, Tabaco, La Puente, Oreganal, Tajo 100 y Comuneros.Los equipos y la maquinaria empleados en la operación están entre los de mayor tamaño y capacidad en su tipo: más de 240 camiones de 320, 240 y 190 toneladas de capacidad. La operación de Cerrejón integra los procesos productivos, mina-ferrocarril-puerto, buscando garantizar mayor eficiencia en el conjunto de la operación y menor impacto sobre el medio ambiente.
