Jochen Kleinschmidt is Associate Professor at theFaculty of International, Political and Urban Studies of Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia. Previously, he has been Assistant Professor at EAFIT University in Medellín, Colombia, Adjunct Lecturer at the University of the German Armed Forces in Munich, Germany, and Visiting Fellow at NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany.
In 2014, he was awarded a doctorate in political science by LMU Munich in Munich, Germany. His research is based on an interest in International Relations theory, and specifically, Luhmannian world society theory, posthumanism, and other work inspired by social theory. In his empirical research, he deals with topics of the Global South, Latin America, organized crime, counterinsurgency, asymmetric conflict, supply line security, and military technology and other strategic issues.
His work has been published in academic journals such as Small Wars & Insurgencies, International Politics, Alternatives, and Revista Brasileira de Política Internacional. He has presented his research at more than forty academic events in Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. He has also briefed or authored policy documents for, among other institutions, the German MoD, the United States European Command, the MoD of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Army of North Macedonia, NATO School, NATO Defence College, OSCE, the Colombian Superior War College, the Colombian Army School of Intelligence and Counterintelligence, the Colombian Navy's Academy for Strategic Studies, the National Intelligence Directorate of Colombia, and the George C. Marshall Center for European Security Studies.
His commentary on current security issues has been featured by Al Jazeera, France 24, ZDF, The Telegraph, El Espectador, and other media outlets.
