abstract

  • The Amazon region, particularly the department of Putumayo, holds a significant reserve of water resources, contributing approximately 24% of this resource in Colombia by flowing its waters into the Amazon River. However, the exploitation of this potential has been limited due to the priority of preserving the rich biodiversity of the area. Additionally, the department's participation in the national energy matrix is modest, representing less than 1%. The considerable distance between Putumayo and power generation centers imposes high costs, exposed to frequent fluctuations in the power supply due to the vulnerability of transmission lines. In these critical periods, electricity generation through diesel plants is used. Given this scenario, a viable solution is proposed based on unconventional sources of energy (FNCER), with a specific focus on generation through small hydroelectric plants. This approach allows for minimal modifications to the water sources, thus preserving local fauna. The execution of a project is proposed to assess the technical and economic feasibility of installing small hydroelectric plants at a specific point in the region. The proposed study aims to determine the available water potential to establish what energy demand could be satisfied. Likewise, various technologies of small hydroelectric plants implemented internationally and nationally will be addressed. An economic analysis will be conducted to assess the implications of installing these plants in the region. This comprehensive approach aims to provide a solid foundation for decision-making regarding the implementation of small hydroelectric plants as a source of energy in the department of Putumayo
