The present work consists of a descriptive review of the progress that the National Health System has had during the last twenty-five (25) years. Based on first-hand information found on the page of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, publications of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), archives of the Bank of the Republic, journals and specialized reports in the health sector. In this way, a discussion can be generated regarding the perspective we have regarding the health service in Colombia, in relation to how it should behave and how it behaves.
