abstract

  • Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) is a highly prevalent pathology around the world. Symptoms of extraesophageal reflux (REE) such as chest pain, laryngitis, esophageal pain, cough, hoarseness, and postnasal drip may be found. The diagnosis becomes challenging given that the symptoms of extraesophageal reflux can occur simultaneously with the symptoms commonly presented in GER, just as there are patients who only present extraesophageal symptoms. The present study aims to evaluate the association between extraesophageal symptoms with the positive result of pH-impedanciometry for pathological gastroesophageal reflux, in a cohort of patients attending a gastroenterology reference center in Bogotá 2019-2022. Cross-sectional study, based on patient records from a cohort of 2,688 patients. The analysis of the Age variable was carried out as a categorical variable through a decision tree, prior to its inclusion in the final Logistic Regression model. Validation of the independence of errors of the regression model through the Durbin-Watson test and calibration with the Hosmer-Lemeshow test. A significant relationship was found between body mass index (BMI), male sex, age over 59.4 years, presence of heartburn, regurgitation, and previous diagnosis of hiatal hernia. In the ROC curve, the area under the curve was 0.677.
