  • The past U-20 FIFA World Cup was a great opportunity that Colombia had to keep promoting itself worldwide and improve the negative reputation of being a violent country. Due to the success of this event, which was among the bests of its kind since it also set the record of assistance for a U-20 FIFA World Cup (FIFA.COM, 2011), and adding to that the statements of FIFA’s President: “Colombia is ready for the great FIFA World Cup, but for now it will have to wait for 2026, since the headquarters for the 2014 (Brazil), 2018(Russia) and 2022(Qatar) editions are already assigned” (Semana, 2011); this project pretends to analyze 5 key indicators (infaestructure, mobility, roads, cities, security), if Bogota is ready to be the main host of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. To achieve this objective, previous World Cups would be analyzed. A comparative analysis between Johannesburg (main host of 2010 FIFA World Cup) and Bogota was done, in five key aspects that allow to determine strengths and weaknesses of the Colombian capital city in order to be the main host of a FIFA World Cup. Conclusions are presented.
