abstract

  • Introduction: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is one of the most common neuropathies in the upper extremities. This entrapment of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel is due to the performance of repetitive, sustained, vibratory and high-effort tasks in hands. Objective: to carry out a scope review that allows identifying the evaluation tools reported to determine the risk of presenting carpal tunnel syndrome among workers in the health area. Methodology: Literature scoping search conducted using ScienceDirect, PubMed, Web of Science, Lilacs, Elseiver, ScieLo, and Google Scholar databases, with the search terms risk assessment tool, carpal tunnel syndrome, diagnostic accuracy and health professionals, articles in Spanish or English from the last 10 years were included. Results: A total of 24 selectable articles were obtained for the present investigation, as a primary factor a significant relationship was found between high body mass index, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, diabetes and CTS. Within the methods that determine the risk of developing CTS, tests of both motor and sensory evaluations were found and repetitive, manual activities and the use of vibrating tools predispose the presentation of CTS. Conclusion: informed evaluations, questionnaires, tests related to indexes, and diagnostic images were found among the tools that allow identifying and evaluating the risk of presenting carpal tunnel syndrome.
