abstract

  • For more than 30 years, the inhabitants of Mochuelo Bajo have had the Doña Juana landfill as a neighbor. Over the years the tension between the community and the regulatory bodies of the landfill has increased, to the point of blaming the garbage dump for the diseases present in the neighborhood. On repeated occasions, Doña Juana has been in the eye of the hurricane, has been fined several times and supervised by some government entities. Through this journalistic product, the different points of view and positions of some of those involved in the dilemma that have been trying to be resolved for years are made known: is there someone responsible for the diseases that the inhabitants of the Mochuelo Bajo neighborhood say they suffer from, next to the Doña Juana Landfill. The main objective of this work was to verify the difficulties faced by the inhabitants of Mochuelo Bajo by living next to the Doña Juana Landfill Among the specific objectives are the following: Understand what are the main inconveniences with waste management within the landfill and expose how this affects people's health. Identify everyday problems caused by being close to the filling. Know the actions that have been carried out to try to solve health and sanitation problems. The approach that was carried out in the present work is qualitative, through an ethnographic method. The reason for the decision not to use quantitative methods is based on the specific objectives mentioned above, which can be met by other means such as interviews, observation techniques, and archival and document review. Using quantitative methodologies implied changing the focus of the research, even so, it is pertinent to clarify that they would be useful in the event that the purpose of the same was to provide data on the subject, however, there are already varied sources of numerical information that provide said need and resolve certain doubts.
