abstract

  • Objective: to determinate the measurement of muscle mass by computed tomography in a healthy population, at Fundación Cardioinfantil, Bogotá, 2014-2018. Materials and methods: observational descriptive study of a cohort. Results: The median for the muscle mass density of the right psoas muscle was 56,1 Hounsfield Units (HU), (56,9 HU for women and 55,3 HU for men) and left psoas was 55,5 HU (56,0 HU for woman and 54,5 HU for man). The muscle mass area of the right psoas showed a median of 834,5 mm2 (684,3 mm2 for woman and 1189,1 mm2 for men), being greater for the age group between 60 to 69 years with a median of 963,9 mm2 and lower for ages up to 19 years with a median of 609,7 mm2. Conclusión: With the data obtained in the healthy population evaluated, lower values are observed both in the area and in the density, compared with the results reported in the Caucasian population, expected findings considering the population profile, that is why with the present study it wants to establish a basis for future research, which will help establish the parameters of normality for the Latin American population and in this way have representative data that serve as a reference for investigations in pathological states.
