abstract

  • Introduction Breast cancer is the most frequent tumor in women worldwide. There are multiple risk factors linked to its etiology. It has been described that a high mammographic density is associated with a higher risk of developing breast cancer. Mammographic density in Colombian women has not been characterized yet. This study aims to analyze mammographic density in Colombian women and its determinants. Materials and methods Transversal study. The population in study includes women who attended screening mammography in Clínica Colombia in Bogotá between 2019 - 2022. Mammographic density and its relationship with diet, alcohol and tobacco consumption, age, body mass index (BMI), menopausal status, physical activity and parity was studied. Results The mean age was 57.5 years, 89% were postmenopausal, only 8% had a family history of breast cancer. Lower mammographic density was found in older women, with higher BMI, postmenopausal, with two or more children, and younger age at menarche. Conclusions Age, BMI, parity, menopausal status, and age at menarche were associated with percentage mammographic density. There was no association found with alcohol and tobacco consumption.
